The Jealousy Reset

Jealousy is an alarm, not a verdict. It may point toward fear, comparison, uncertainty, a broken agreement—or several things at once.

Pause before you prosecute. A strong feeling is real evidence that something needs attention. It is not automatic proof of what happened.

Name the feeling

Try something more precise than “bad”: afraid, excluded, replaceable, embarrassed, angry, lonely or uncertain.

Separate fact from story

Write what you directly observed. Then write the meaning your mind attached to it. Do not combine the two.

Find the need underneath

Do you need information, reassurance, repair, inclusion, rest, time, a clearer agreement—or a boundary of your own?

Make one clean request

Ask for a specific conversation or action. Avoid punishment, surveillance and tests your partner does not know they are taking.

Revisit the agreement

If an agreement was unclear, unrealistic or broken, name that directly. Renegotiation requires everyone’s participation.

A conversation starter

“I noticed I’m telling myself a scary story about what happened. The fact I know is ____. The story I’m adding is ____. What I need before we decide what comes next is ____.”
